To get an OpenAI API key: sign in at platform.openai.com, add a payment method and some credit under Billing, open the API keys page, click "Create new secret key", copy it, and paste it into No-Code AI App Builder when it asks. The whole thing takes about five minutes. Your key is saved only in your browser and sent straight to OpenAI. It never reaches our servers.
Why the builder uses your own key
- 0% commission. You pay OpenAI's own token price on your own account. We add nothing on top.
- No credits, no limits. Build and change as much as you like; your OpenAI usage is all you spend on AI.
- Full control. You see every request in your OpenAI usage dashboard and can set a monthly budget there.
Building and previewing apps in the builder is free. Only the APK and AAB downloads need Builder Pro ($7/month).
Step 1 — Sign in to the OpenAI platform
Go to platform.openai.com and sign in, or create a free account. You can use the same login as ChatGPT, but the API is billed separately: a ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription does not include API usage.
Step 2 — Add a payment method and credit
The API is pay as you go, so your account needs credit before the key works.
- Open Settings (the gear icon), then Billing — or go straight to platform.openai.com/settings/organization/billing.
- Click Add payment details and add a card.
- Buy some prepaid credit. A small amount is enough to build your first apps; you can top up any time.
- Optional: turn on auto recharge so a long build never stops halfway because the balance ran out.
Step 3 — Set a spending limit (recommended)
Under Settings → Limits you can set a monthly budget and an email alert. With prepaid credit you can never spend more than you added, but a budget is a good extra guard if you turn on auto recharge.
Step 4 — Create your secret key
- Open the API keys page: platform.openai.com/api-keys.
- Click Create new secret key.
- Give it a name you will recognise, like
No-Code AI App Builder. Keep the default project. - For permissions, choose All. (If you prefer a restricted key, it needs read access to Models and write access to Responses.)
- Click Create secret key and copy it now. It starts with
sk-, and OpenAI shows the full key only once. If you lose it, just create a new one.
Step 5 — Paste it into the builder
- Open the builder and sign in with Google.
- Type what you want to build and press Enter — the builder asks for your key. You can also open Settings → OpenAI key or tap Add OpenAI key in the top bar.
- Paste the key and click Save key. The builder checks it with OpenAI first, then starts building.
That is it. On another computer or browser you paste the key once more, because it is stored only in the browser you used.
Is my key safe?
- The key is saved only in your browser's storage on your device, and requests go from your browser directly to OpenAI. It is never sent to or stored on our servers.
- Never paste the key into the chat or share it with anyone. The builder blocks secret keys in chat messages for that reason.
- You can remove it any time in the builder's Settings, and you can revoke it on OpenAI's API keys page. Revoking stops it working everywhere at once.
- A separate key just for the builder makes its usage easy to see and easy to switch off.
What it costs
You pay OpenAI per token — roughly, per piece of text the AI reads and writes — at the price on OpenAI's pricing page. Building a whole new app uses more than a small change, and short, specific requests are the cheapest (see iterating on an AI-built app). Your OpenAI Usage page shows exactly what each day cost.
Fixing common key errors
| What the builder says | What to do |
|---|---|
| OpenAI did not accept this key | Copy the whole key again (it starts with sk-), or create a new one. A revoked or deleted key stops working. |
| Your OpenAI account has no credit left | Add credit or a payment method under Billing, then try again. |
| OpenAI is rate-limiting your key | Wait a few seconds and send again. New accounts have lower limits that rise as you use the API. |
| Your OpenAI key cannot use this model yet | Check the model limits and organisation verification under Settings in your OpenAI account; some models need a verified organisation or a minimum spend first. |
