Why an app and not just a website
You should have a website too. The app is for the client who has already met you: it sits on their phone with your name under it, it opens instantly, the gallery works offline in a venue with no signal, and a "book me" button is one tap away. It is a reminder disguised as a utility.
What to put in the prompt
- Your discipline — the builder tunes the gallery: masonry for photography, cards for UX case studies, a reel-style list for video, a scrollable canvas for illustration.
- Albums or projects — even three names help.
- Where the images live — a sheet of URLs, a public Drive folder, your website. The app should never carry hundreds of megabytes of photos inside it.
- The action — email form, WhatsApp, a booking link. One primary action, not five.
Case studies for designers and developers
Ask for "projects with a problem / process / result layout" and the builder generates a detail template with a cover, a short brief, images with captions and links to the live work. Writers get a reading-optimised article template instead; ask for "essays" and it changes the typography.
Keeping it light
A portfolio app should be under 10 MB, ask for no permissions, and open in under a second. The builder produces this by default because nothing in the prompt needs the camera, location or notifications. Check the exported manifest: it should list only internet access.
